One year ago on October 22, 2013 Andy Lopez was shot to death by a Sonoma County Sheriff officer who mistook his toy gun for a real assault rifle.
Within this last year more attention has been focussed on police shootings, on assault weapons, on toy guns that look like real guns, and on community action to change how law enforcement interacts with citizens.
Sonoma County’s Community and Local law Enforcement Task Force is proposing an anniversary event pot luck at Cook Middle School in recognition of Andy’s death one year ago during the week of October 20th.
There will also be a pot luck at the Andy Lopez Community Park on Moreland Avenue at 6pm on October 22nd. In addition, people are asked to attend the October 21st Board of Supervisors Tuesday meeting at 2pm.
