A officer said it was “obvious” there was not enough room in the Hillsborough ground for crowds outside – but the comment was removed from his original statement.
The evidence of former PC Harold Guest, who has since died, was read to the inquests into the 96 deaths.
The court heard he was based in the Sheffield Wednesday control room on April 15, 1989, and could see CCTV of the turnstiles and monitors showing the numbers who had entered the ground.
Jonathan Hough, counsel to the inquests, read a statement from Mr Guest dated August 1989.
